Kim and Jake were the first couple to take a chance on me when I began my photography journey. Yes, they were my very first wedding consultation! We’ve been together through date changes, family photos, impromptu Vegas elopement chats and I finally got to watch them tie the knot last year.
Kim and Jake are the epitome of yin and yang. Kim is bold, audacious and warm. Jake is strong, laid back and welcoming. Together they are the best team of parents to their two little boys.
After an intimate first look across the street from the hotel we set out on an adventure with downtown Calgary as our playground. We headed to Bridgette Bar first with the wedding party in tow for a few glamorous cocktails. Afterwards we loaded into the bus and headed to Radio Block Tattoo where Garret opened up shop to give Kim and Jake some cute wedding day mementos!
I remember when Kim and Jake brought me the idea of tattoos on their wedding day after seeing Radio Block on my IG stories. I could barely contain my excitement! This was such a fun way for everyone to kick back and relax and also to memorialize such an incredible day. And I mean, it’s pretty bad ass! Once they were inked forever we made our way to Bonterra Trattoria for the night.
As the sun set, a candlelit ceremony took place on the vine lined terrace, Kim and Jake’s son’s joined them as they exchanged rings. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as this family joined together.
As we planned the day together it was so clear to me that their priority was to PARTY and I am so here for that! The reception felt indulgent with multiple courses, rich wine and an exuberance in the air. It also felt incredibly intimate as everyone flowed between the tables and bar like a big family Christmas.
To end the night I snuck away with the Bride and Groom for a private first dance on the terrace. A song softly played as they swayed together in the candlelight as the party inside roared on.
